mix for early summer
Mac DeMarco, Keiichi Sokabe, Eugene Record, YMO, De La Soul/ Otis Redding, Larry Heard
☀️ FINALLY! ☀️
*To play the full songs listed below, I recommend viewing this post on substack on a computer.*
This week, starting off with two long time favorites, Mac DeMarco and Keiichi Sokabe, both singer-songwriters; then Eugene Record’s Here Comes the Sun (not the Beatles), sampled in De La Soul’s very catchy song; the unparalleled YMO on their 1983 album (if you haven’t checked out Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi or Ryuichi Sakamoto’s individual work, what are you doing with your life?!); more De La Soul with a personal favorite Eye Know (which samples both Steely Dan’s Peg and Otis Redding’s Dock of the Bay!!); and finally Chicago house legend Larry Heard (also known as Mr Fingers).
Young Coconut - Mac DeMarco
夏 - Keiichi Sokabe
Here Comes the Sun - Eugene Record
君に、胸キュン。-浮気なヴァカンス - YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA
Eye Know - De La Soul, Otis Redding
Summertime Breeze - Larry Heard
*streaming can be a great, accessible way to discover new music and an easy way for me to embed playlists into my posts, but I would encourage, if possible, supporting the artists through other platforms and exploring the rest of their work*
